The InnovateUK AI in the Music Industry project that DAACI has been leading on with academic partner University of the Arts London (UAL) is now entering its final stages.
The final in person workshop was held at UAL’s Nerve Lab at the High Holborn Campus last week.
The project set out to reduce bias and promote diversity in DAACI’s generative AI music technology by expanding and developing the DAACI Natural Drums plugin and accompanying User Interface (UI). Since May 2024, the team have worked with a stylistically diverse pool of musicians who have contributed directly to the project by providing their expert insight and suggestions.
This week, the final in person workshop was held at UAL’s Nerve Lab at the High Holborn Campus. We were delighted to be able to showcase the improvements to both our technology and UI that the musicians’ earlier involvement had directly influenced. They had the opportunity to road test these developments, and again gave us their expert insight and opinions on the changes that have been implemented. We had such a great response and are now preparing for the final presentation to Innovate UK to show how far we have come.
This collaboration (both with UAL and the independent pool of musicians who have been taking part) has meant that DAACI continues to push key areas of Research and Development at the company forward. As Dr Stella Mearns (Senior Researcher at DAACI) says, “Most importantly, this assimilation of knowledge and insight allows us to broaden our scope and vision and address the ethical issues we are tackling, that go well beyond our actual tech development.”
