DAACI joined the SXSW London 2025 roadshow at a panel at the Birmingham roadshow this week. Head of Creative Partnerships Annemarie Gaillard discussed “Where is the I in AI?”
The discussion panel included DAACI’s Annemarie, as well as Jason Reed from RoEx and Declan McGlynn from Voice-Swap.
Annemarie discussed:
- An overview of DAACI. Our latest technology and our mission to create tools that empower music creators and amplify the creative process, never replace.
- DAACI’s latest projects, including new and upcoming creator tools for those starting out on their musical journey. Giving a musical gateway to those who may not have access to expensive tools. The tools are also applicable to pro musicians, getting their ideas down on the go. Then the attribution engine, proved out through the Innovate UK grant.
- Spoke about music education, including the cuts and difficulties faced by schools and young people, and how people like Ed Sheeran are campaigning to improve music education across regions, schools and age ranges: ‘We support music education grassroots organisations and state school music departments to provide inclusive, high-quality music education. We also advocate for a greater focus on music education – one that recognises the power of music in changing young people’s lives.’
- Impact of learning and engaging with music on wellbeing and cognitive functioning. The importance and also joy of being creative and expressing ourselves. This then feeds back into STEM subjects and overall health.
- All 3 companies on the panel approach their work from an ethical POV, showing how AI, when done in this way, can assist and enhance music makers. This is versus companies with deep learning approach and how impactful this is on artists and the future of how music sounds; as artists we write from a particular human place (based on life experiences). Deep learning tools/quick prompt tools cannot replace the ‘humaness’ of songwriting.
Annemarie also spoke to the students in attendance during the Q&A section, about how, as the future of the music industry, it’s important for them to stay up to speed on the AI and music landscape. She recommended they understand the tools our there and how data is being used, to know what is going on in government and get involved where they can to protect our industry.
