DAACI continues in its mission to develop the world’s best compositional AI tools and technology during the 2023 ASCAP Music Lab/NYC Media Lab Music and AI Challenge.
During each week of the twelve-week challenge, the DAACI team virtually meets with members of the ASCAP community. We’ll report on updates from these meetings as well as DAACI’s progress and discoveries as we develop artist-centred music and AI tools and technology throughout the challenge.
This week, ASCAP’s brief focused on utilising the power of storytelling to pitch each team’s product or company. The overarching aim was to make each cohort’s presentation a story to remember. Presenting this week for DAACI was Annemarie Gaillard (Creative Partnerships and Business Development) and David Fong (Product and User Discovery) who showcased the history of DAACI to the present day. Starting right at the beginning of the DAACI narrative, Annemarie and David told the story of Inventor and Co-Founder Dr Joe Lyske, whose PhD forms the basis of what is known today as DAACI. They described some of the trials and tribulations that Dr Joe faced in those early years, which ultimately helped to shape and improve the DAACI software. This led to Dr Joe’s collaboration with Philip Walsh in December 2014. This partnership brought together Joe’s creative mind and Philip’s commercial expertise to set the scene for DAACI’s evolution and validation within the music industry.
Then in the final chapter of the story, Annemarie and David introduced Rachel Lyske, Joe’s younger sister, who joined the DAACI project in 2020. Rachel’s extensive musical knowledge, as well as her understanding and life-long experience with DAACI, meant she was perfectly placed to guide the company through the fast-paced world of AI music tech. Since becoming ‘the face of DAACI,’ Rachel has been integral to the developments and growth of the company, as well as representing the brand at multiple industry events such as SXSW, The Great Escape, Music Ally and NY:LON Connects. DAACI now enjoys global recognition from industry leaders such as Abbey Road, The Ivors Academy, Innovate UK and Queen Mary University. This recognition provides clear evidence of DAACI’s place at the forefront of reliable and ethical AI that is ultimately designed to enhance and assist composers during the creative process.
This week’s session was an unforgettable opportunity for ASCAP members to hear the DAACI story, and our presenters David Fong and Annemarie Gaillard were just as fascinated to learn more about other members of the ASCAP community. With only 2 weeks to go in the ASCAP challenge, we’re eagerly looking forward to what the next sessions will bring…
